PPM is all about cost benefit and minimising the risk of lost production time through a scheduled maintenance program. It therefore makes sense that the best time to 3D optically scan your key components / plant, setting up a digital archive, in anticipation of a parts failure, is during the PPM schedule maintenance period.
Many of our clients are still operating effective, older plant and equipment that was designed and manufactured in the pre-digital age and our clients often find they do not have the original drawings or spares with which to keep the plant operating.
They also operate equipment that is linked to a single supplier, who holds the monopoly on the equipment and either charges excessive amounts for spares or will not release spare components and will only supply complete units. Through 3D scanning and reverse engineering, we can ensure that our clients can de-risk these issues.
What is Pre-digital
Many such parts pre-date digitised design and our clients do not have original manufacturing drawings. Therefore, using 3D scanning, and by capturing data the part can be digitised, before being input into CAD. Once the data has been input and a model produced in CAD we can store the data in a digital library until it is required, or start optimising and redesigning the part.
